Today, 21st March 2023 is International Fragrance Day! A day dedicated to the art of fragrance and the impact it has on our lives. Whether it is candles and home fragrance or perfumes and Amoritic oils, fragrances have been used for centuries to enhance our moods, improve our well-being, and evoke emotions and have become an integral part of our daily lives.
Celebrating the power of fragrance
Today is a celebration of the power of fragrance and its ability to bring joy, comfort, and inspiration.
The history of fragrance can be traced back to ancient times when people used natural ingredients like flowers, herbs, and spices to create fragrances. The ancient Egyptians were the first to use perfume, they believed that it had spiritual and healing properties.
Today, it is estimated that the fragrance industry in the UK is worth over £2 Billion per year with the most popular products being, perfumes, soaps, candles, and air fresheners. Fragrances can be classified into various categories like floral, fruity, spicy, woody, and oriental. Each fragrance has its own unique characteristics and evokes different emotions and moods.
Fragrances have a powerful impact on our emotions and can affect our mood and behaviour. For example, a fresh, citrusy fragrance can make us feel energized and invigorated, while a warm, spicy fragrance can make us feel nice and relaxed. Fragrances can also trigger memories and associations, which is why they are often used in aromatherapy to improve mental health and well-being.
